Awardee Profiles

The Powers Home

Congratulations to Michelle Powers as the Finger Lakes Climate Fund’s 101st awardee!  Prior to her heat pump installation, she had been using a sedimented electric hot water heater that often broke down and was unreliable.  As a homeowner in DeRuyter living in an old house, Michelle wanted a more consistent and cost-efficient option.

Around three months ago, Michelle had Halco come to her home and complete some upgrades.  These included extensive insulation and air sealing, an electric panel upgrade, and the replacement of her broken hot water heater with the heat pump water heater.  Michelle was very pleased with Halco’s work, describing them as extremely professional, informative, and kind.  She was especially happy with their clean up process, “When they left you didn’t know that they had been here, they left no mess behind… and everything was working”.  Since the installation, Michelle has felt comfortable despite the frigid temperatures this January and is excited to have the heat pump for the summer months.  “It’s been a load off to know that this will be working for a long time”

Special thanks to Colgate University for donating to the Climate Fund and covering these important upgrades for Michelle.  Because of their generosity and Michelle’s decision to enroll in the program, 97 tons of CO2 will be kept out of the atmosphere!
