The Roach Home

At the beginning of 2020, Catherine and Tony Roach of Johnson City decided it was time to give their charming 1930s bungalow a well-deserved energy upgrade. Determined to create a more comfortable home, they turned to Snug Planet, a team known for their expertise and passion for energy efficiency.

During the home energy audit, Snug Planet discovered that the insulation in the Roach family’s home had long since worn thin, leaving the house drafty and prone to major energy leakages. This not only made winters uncomfortable but also caused the family to overspend on heating. To support Catherine and Tony in their energy-efficiency journey, the Climate Fund happily stepped in with a $1,046 grant.

With a clear mission, the Snug Planet team quickly sprang into action. They sealed air leaks, insulated the attic, basement, walls, and lighting, and even replaced the Roach family’s old, inefficient gas furnace with a state-of-the-art model. The result? A remarkable 36% reduction in their monthly fuel bills and a much cozier home!

The timing couldn’t have been better. Just before COVID-19 made its way to the United States, the Roach family’s home was transformed into a snug, energy-efficient haven. As the world adjusted to spending more time indoors, Catherine, Tony, and their two grandchildren found comfort and peace in their upgraded home.

The Roach family’s commitment to energy efficiency has had a lasting impact—not just on their own lives, but on the planet as well. Thanks to the upgrades, they are preventing an impressive 42 tons of CO2 from entering our atmosphere! We are thrilled to celebrate Catherine and Tony as our 39th Climate Fund awardees!
