Congrats to our 105th Finger Lakes Climate Fund awardee, Alpha Anderson! Alpha and her husband are both teachers who moved to New York with their children just over a year ago. After purchasing their home, they quickly realized their new home needed significant work to make it comfortable and energy efficient.
Before receiving help from the Finger Lakes Climate Fund, the Anderson family struggled through their first winter with no insulation in the home. Heating with oil was expensive, and the basement was damp and difficult to use.
Through the FLCF, the family received necessary upgrades, including insulation, a heat pump water heater, a sump pump, and a dehumidifier. These improvements helped keep the home warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and drier year-round, resulting in a healthier living space for the whole family. They are even considering starting a small mushroom farm in their basement, something that would not have been possible before the upgrades!
With these clean energy upgrades, the Anderson family has lowered their heating costs, improved their home’s comfort, and taken meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future. With these upgrades, 169 tons of CO₂ emissions are being prevented!
