The Ward Home

Meet the Ward family of Newfield, our 54th Climate Fund Awardees! After returning home from their daughter Deanna’s third heart surgery for her complex congenital heart disease back in 2020, they discovered she had temperature regulation struggles and needed stable temperatures at home, especially during the summer.

Partnering with Halco, they tapped into a range of incentives and grants, securing $2,300 from our Heatsmart partner grant and a $1,921 Climate Fund grant!  With this support, they installed a new air source heat pump system and a heat pump water heater. Christina shared that they were initially nervous about the new water heater, but it has exceeded their expectations. The kids can enjoy hour-long baths and multiple showers in a day without running out of hot water!

The Wards are thrilled to bid farewell to their old window AC units and expensive propane heating, which cost them three times more. Their new system not only brings comfort but also prevents 58 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. “We really just got so lucky, especially in a year where we rarely leave the house… it’s really nice to be so comfortable,” Christina expressed with joy.

Let’s celebrate the Wards’ incredible journey and their positive impact on the environment! Congratulations to these climate heroes!
