Offsetter Stories

Nancy Singham

Nancy was born and raised in the Finger Lakes region, but now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. For the last 11 years, she has worked with 350 New Mexico, a non-profit organization working on climate justice and climate change. Her experience has left her with the conviction that the best climate solutions are the Win-Win kind. That is, solutions that both support climate mitigation and adaptation, while at the same time building our communities to actually restore and make lives better. The immobilizing fear and dread of climate change can be countered if people come together in community to build and fight for each other.

Nancy has been a repeat supporter of the Finger Lakes Climate Fund, and has contributed to it all three times that she has boarded a plane in the last 11 years – always to visit family, which is a common theme of many other offsetters of the program.

“I love that my offsets for my recent trip to London (to visit my son at University there) will both replace fossil fuel based systems in homes with cleaner and cheaper to operate renewables while improving the daily economic lives of local families,” shares Nancy, “Of course there is much, much more we must do to address the harm and injustice we have caused to ourselves and our planet. But the Climate Fund is a great reminder that many such changes can be a Win-Win.”
