Offsetter Stories

Maurice Belanger

Maurice has been offsetting his carbon footprint since 2008 by carefully tracking his household’s natural gas and gasoline use. He and his wife travel to Europe once or twice a year, and he uses our site to calculate the CO2 from their flights. Every six months, he totals it all up and donates the offset amount.

He keeps his approach focused and manageable. In Maryland, where electricity providers are a consumer choice, Maurice and his wife have opted for renewable energy, from RECs to locally generated wind power and now community solar.

Although Maurice isn’t quite sure how he first came across the Finger Lakes Climate Fund, he liked the idea of supporting energy efficiency projects for low and moderate-income households right away.

We’re grateful to Maurice for his commitment and thoughtful contributions!
