The Gedney Home

Christmas 2022 didn’t go as planned for the Gedney family. As the holiday began, their fuel oil furnace broke down due to a cracked heat exchanger. To make matters worse, later that day, while putting a ten-pound prime rib in the oven, the stove gave out as well. Despite these setbacks, the family celebrated Christmas using space heaters to warm their home and an air oven to cook their holiday meal. They knew, however, that a long-term solution was needed for their heating woes.

Luckily William, a retired HVAC technician, knew that a heat pump would be the perfect fix. He reached out to Simply Installs for assistance. The company installed a 5-zone Mitsubishi air source heat pump system in the Gedney’s double-wide manufactured home. They also insulated the home with spray foam, sealed the ductwork, and added new seals around the doors. William praised Simply Installs, saying they “did a very good job for me. I would recommend them to anybody.”

The results were nothing short of amazing. The home upgrade reduced the Gedney’s summer cooling bills by 50%, as they previously relied on three window AC units with their kids in the house. Temperatures throughout the home are now consistent, and the family’s savings continued throughout their first winter with their new heat pump. No more high fuel oil bills!

The Gedney family utilized a grant from the Finger Lakes Climate Fund to make the upgrade affordable when combined with other incentives. By upgrading their home, William and Audrey will keep 136 tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere over the equipment’s lifetime!

We send our warmest wishes to the Gedney family, our climate heroes!
