Congratulations to Paw Theh Dee and his family on their new heat pump! Paw is the 18th recipient of the Mobile Home Pilot Project and the 93rd awardee of the Finger Lakes Climate Fund. Last summer was especially challenging for their family, with temperatures rising to unbearable levels, and Paw shared that his children could hardly tolerate the heat. Before their heat pump installation, they had been relying on natural gas for heating, but the temperatures were inconsistent throughout the house. Thanks to upgrades completed by Halco, including the new heat pump, spray foam insulation on the underbelly, and an electric panel upgrade, their home has become much more comfortable and warm. Paw is excited to see how the new heat pump performs during the summer months as well. By switching to a more sustainable energy source, Paw’s family will prevent 153 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere! “We are happy and grateful for the support this program provided us.”

Congratulations to our 92nd Finger Lakes Climate awardee, Ritza Francois! She is a homeowner in Trumansburg and is passionate about sustainability, specifically food justice and conservation. Choosing an energy source that is more environmentally friendly was one of the main reasons Ritza looked into the Finger Lakes Climate Fund, alongside high propane costs. “When we got this land I wanted to be very mindful of the inputs and things that we are doing… we were very interested in doing cleaner energy opportunities.” With help from Cornell Cooperative Extension, she was directed to Simply Installs who completed the installation work. Since this project was completed, her home temperatures have been much more comfortable, especially in the summertime, and she enjoys how easy it is to change the settings. Ritza’s decision to switch to a more sustainable heating and cooling source will keep 110 tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere! “We are very excited that this program exists, and we hope more people sign up for it because you can definitely see the benefits of having a heat pump”.
